Saving America Part 12

It is time now to become energy independent. We have to start somewhere, it is not something that will happen overnight it is a long process but we must get started using our own natural resources to wean us from the dependency on the Middle East. Not only does our future depend on it so does our national security

Oil and gasoline prices the summer of 2008 should’ve shown our leaders the need for America to be energy independent.  Gas prices soared to over $4.00 a gallon and did harm to our economy that we’re still trying to recover from.

The elitist liberal progressives sat on their hands last summer and let America suffer from the high gas prices.  Comrade Nancy Pelosi told us last summer that it would take months and years even if we started then for any new oil to come online.  It has been over a year now and still Congress sits on their hands and has done nothing.

The oil companies have shown with the oil pipeline in Alaska that it can drill for oil and transport it without hurting the environment.  We have vast oil reserves in Alaska, the oil shale in the Midwest, and offshore in the ocean.  There have been oil rigs in the gulf and off the West Coast for years with no accidents.

France and other parts of Europe have supplied most of their electricity for years with nuclear power.  There’ve been no incidents and nuclear power is environmentally friendly.  America needs to start building nuclear plants now.  Along with producing environmentally friendly electricity the building of new plants would be a boom for the construction industry.

Where and when possible we need to develop solar and wind power.  They will never replace our need for other electricity production, but can and should be an environmentally friendly adjunct to coal, natural gas, and nuclear power.

Depending on the Middle East for our oil is economically unsound and is a vast security risk for America.  Daily we are sending billions of dollars to the Middle East to buy oil that could be drilled for and tapped right here in America.  We need to use sound environmental policies but that technology is here for us to use.

The security risk for America is even worse.  If the Middle East decided to cut off our oil not only would our economy shut down, so would our military.  Without oil for our ships, planes, and military vehicles we would have no military defense.

America we need to move forward with our energy policies.  We need to be environmentally friendly, but not so ridiculous that we shut down our economy and destroy America.  Tell your Congressman now that we need to open up oil, gas, and nuclear energy today.
